This book grew out of a 5-year research project that was based on the premise that self-determination and leisure and both important but often neglected skills for children with developmental disabilities. The first chapter provides the reader with an introduction to the project, as well as a conceptual understanding of the process. The remainder of the book is that which is really important—the stories of ten students and how they expanded their leisure skills and knowledge as ways to enhance academic, social, and life skills, as well as to experience success, self-esteem, new friendships and enjoyment.
